Located in the state of Gujarat, the Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant is a prominent symbol of India’s progress in nuclear energy. The site began operation in the early 1990s and has recently entered a new chapter with the commissioning of indigenously designed 700 MW Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). With four units—two operational and two in advanced stages of commissioning—Kakrapar will soon contribute over 2,000 MW of clean electricity to the national grid, strengthening India’s commitment to energy security and carbon reduction.
